Bead Soup Blog Party Day 1!!!

Today is the First Reveal Day of the 7th Bead Soup Blog Party… with 2 more to come,
and more than 500 participants!!! Thank you Lori, for being such a wonderful hostess.
You deserve a big applause and flowers! Here they are...

 

 

The preparation of my bead soup started with the first email contact between
my sweet partner Birgitta Lejonklou (Sweden) and me. Birgitta designs and makes amazing ceramic jewellery with a special touch. A few days after our first contact,
the postman delivered 2 beautiful packages with some lovely ‘content’ at our home.
With completely new materials for me...

Look what she sent, I really love everything.

The thinking of designing and creating began, starting, take apart, restarting,
mixing and mingling and so on. Here are the results!

 Birgitta’s  Flower cuff is the base for bracelet Brittsommar, Swedish for Indian Summer.
I  choose the name because of the colour scheme. A lot of  glass beads
(made by me) were added, and freshwater pearls, some other beads & stones,
Sari Silk and leather cord. A new way of creating!

A beautiful swallow pendant and a little flower, chain and a clasp were
still on my beading table, my second challenge! Great for making a necklace,
with those lovely colours.

A swallow is a bearer of good news for  many people, so the best name for this
necklace I guess will be Happynesss, written with an y and 3 sss's this time!

Koud - kouder - koudst!

 

Wat is het koud in dit land, we hebben één van de langste koudeperiodes
in de maand maart sinds 1923! Het is daarom belangrijk de vogels een beetje te helpen
overleven... Gelijktijdig zijn er veel persoonlijke dingen waarvan ik van binnen warm word.
Eéntje daarvan is de BeadSoupBlog Party waaraan ik deel neem.
Ik zal een heel klein tipje van de sluier oplichten, 1 stuk heb ik nu af, kijk maar naar de foto
een teaser :-) Ik werk nog aan andere...

 

 

 

 

 

 

We have the longest period of cold in the month of March since 1923, can you imagine?
It's good to feed the birds a bit extra to help them surviving.
At the same time, some personal things in life warm my heart, the BeadSoupBlog Party
is one of them... I did finish one piece, look at the teaser picture!
More pieces to come!

 Echt hoor, geloof me, de lente komt er aan! Het is vandaag nog héél koud buiten, 
een nieuwe koudegolf gaat over het land, maar daarna... Let maar op!
De vogels krijgen nog een extra appeltje en wat pinda's ...
Planten en bomen lopen zoals elk jaar toch echt weer langzaam aan uit :-)
Een never ending story! Eentje om naar uit te kijken.

 

 

Springtime Ring Topper & Winter Flowers

 

 

 Really, believe me, it's going to be Springtime! It's still very very cold outside.
A new cold snap is passing, but after that... Just wait!

I give an extra apple and some peanuts to the birds...
But plants and trees start sprouting, like they do every year :-)
A never ending story! One to look forward to.



Last week

 

 Afgelopen week was wel een spannende...

In Kenia -waar het Home staat waar we voor werken- zijn presidentsverkiezingen

gehouden. De vorige keer mondde dat uit in afschuwelijke ethnische rellen
waarbij duizenden doden vielen. Er is een vluchtelingenkamp in Eldoret, waarin
nog steeds de mensen leven die na de vorige verkiezingen niet meer terug konden
naar hun eigen woonplek. Hoe actief is de regering daar in? Niet dus...

Het lijkt nog steeds rustig in het land, laat dat alsjeblieft zo blijven!

 

De armband die hier staat heet Nandi Hills, in aardse Kenya kleuren.
Samen met een Nederlandse gedroogde hortensiabloem uit onze tuin...
Een mooie combinatie!

 

It is still peaceful this week after the elections held in Kenya, the country where the

Children's Home we work for is located. After the elections in 2007 the country
was suffering from teribble ethnic cleansing. There is a huge refugee camp in Eldoret
where people live for whom it was impossible to return to their home stead.
Does the government take its responsability for that? No...

I do hope everbody will stay safe this time!

 

The name of the bracelet showed here is 'Nandi Hills', made in earth (Kenyan) colors.
A nice combination with the dried hydrangea flower in our garden.



greenSand

 

Tijdens Holland Food and Flowers waar we deze week waren, leerden we
het produkt "greenSand" kennen waaronder ook het greenSand poeder. Een mooie,
héél lichtgroene kleur... Ik mocht een zakje mee naar huis nemen.
Het zand verkleurde wat door het verwerken in het hete glas
maar geeft toch een mooie sprankeling. In de tweede kraal links
zit alleen greenSand, in de andere kralen zit ook frit - glasdecoratie-

 En zijn de  Magic Bells niet bijna voorjaar?

Magic Bells

At Holland Food and Flowers, we visited this week, we discovered
the product 'greenSand' and the greenSand Powder. It contains Olivine and
binds CO2 to it.  It is a beautiful light green colored powder...  I brought a little
bag home... When adding it to the hot glass bead it got a bit brownish, but it sparkles!
The second bead to the left only contains some greenSand, in the others
you see some frit - glass decoration-  too.

And those Magic Bells, aren't they a sign of springtime? 

 

Flower Power

 

@ the Holland Food & Flower Event in Bovenkarspel 

 Gisteren hebben we het Holland Food & Flower Event in Bovenkarspel bezocht.
Met heerlijke proeverijen van groenten, bloemen! en allerlei fruit.
We zagen  schitterende bloemendecoraties en boeketten in alle kleuren...
De natuurlijke bloemen  bloeien uiteindelijk uit.
Mijn 'wilde' glasbloemen blijven voor altijd hetzelfde...

 

 'Wild' Glass Bead Flowers

 

Yesterday we visited the Dutch Food & Flower Event in Bovenkarspel.

We tasted delicious vegetables, flowers! and all kind of different fruits.
We saw amazing bouquets and decorations made of flowers in as many colors as possible.
The real flowers will finish flowering at last.
My 'wild' glass bead flowers will last for ever...

 

Een béétje...

 

Vandaag sneeuwt het weer een beetje na een paar hele koude dagen met veel wind.
Als je naar dit bloemetje kijkt dat ik in een glasbolletje maakte,
lijkt het even voorjaar :-)  en er is zelfs al een vlindertje...

 

Today it's snowing a little bit again, we just had a few very cold and windy days.

But, for a moment, it looks as if it's Springtime, yes?
When looking at this little flower I made in a glass button :-)
and oooo, there's even a small butterfly!

 

 

Challenge

 

 

In het Bead Soup Cafe (Facebook) staat regelmatig een oproep voor een uitdaging.
Onderstaande prachtige foto, de papegaai, was dit keer de inspiratiebron.

Ik maakte een armband met o.a. 2 home-made glaskralen, en won de Challenge!
 

Feather Love Challenge

Yess, my bracelet, with a.o. 2 home made glass beads in it, won the Challenge
in the Bead Soup Cafe on Facebook!
The picture of the parrot was the beautiful source of inspiration...

 

Wow, wat leuk! Nu mag ik - als winnaar- een foto plaatsen.
En dat is deze geworden, genomen op reis door Ethiopië, een paar jaar geleden.
Wat een enorm  contrast... Is dit een echte uitdaging of niet!?
Wat wordt er zoal gemaakt?

Now, as the winner, it's my turn to choose a picture...
Is there a bigger contrast between the Feather Love picture and this one!?
That's the reason I choose it... I took the picture when we were visiting Ethiopia

Implosion

Soft Glass Frit Implosion
 

Gisteren heb ik mijn eerste zachtglas frit implosie gemaakt op de punt van
mijn mandrel. Het is een leuk lentebloemetje geworden, dit kleine bolletje!

 

Yesterday I made my first soft glass frit implosion on top of
my mandrel. It turned out as a sweet spring flower, this little ball!

Winter Time

 

Wintertijd, de tijd om het huis eens extra op te ruimen of meer bezig te zijn met wat je graag doet.
Dat laatste is onder andere glaskralen branden. En nu ook nadenken over sieraden
voor de BSB-party. Allebei erg leuk! Met branden ben ik verder dan met designen :-)

Dit setje kralen maakte ik gisteravond...

 

Winter Time,  a period for cleaning the house a bit extra, or do what you love to do.
For me, that's making glass beads. This winter I have to think
about designing jewelry for the BSB-party too :-)

Burning glass is easier than designing at the moment!
